RSM US LLP (“RSM”) – the nation’s leading provider of audit, tax and consulting services focused on the middle market – was recently ranked the fifth largest accounting, tax and consulting services firm in the U.S. for the 15^th year in a row by Accounting Today.

The publication’s report, “Not too bad, for a pandemic,” showed that in spite of the shattering impact that the COVID-19 pandemic has had on so many sectors of the economy, the accounting profession saw growth in 2020. The publication goes on to say that this was not surprising, given how extraordinarily busy firms were, first in adapting to remote work mandated by the virus, then using lessons learned and best practices to help clients through the year.

Now firms are looking beyond the pandemic in their plans for future growth. M&A remains the most common strategy, backed up by a deepening commitment to advisory services. Firms portfolios for growth include everything from geographic expansion and more scientific business development efforts, to deepening their talent benches and their capacity for innovation. In addition to retaining top talent, firms are reporting actively fostering diversity, equity and inclusion. 

RSM activities highlighted in this year’s Top 100 Firms report were the firm’s January 2021 transaction with San Francisco-based Salesforce consultancy MondayCall LLC, and 2020 transaction with Washington, D.C.-based Tate & Tryon.
